As we get into the year-end winter holiday time, I thought I would take a few minutes to reflect on a few highlights from the past year.
There’s been a few pieces showing up in new (publications), including On The Fly Magazine and the Tom Beckbe Field Journal , as well as longtime publications including some features and other pieces in American Flyfishing, Fly Fisherman, and Fly Tyer magazines.
I started the year with river time on the Metolius River, with the silent days of winter being one of my favorite times of year on this gorgeous water, followed by early spring days on the Lower Deschutes near Maupin. The time in Maupin gave me time to kick off a writing project that will show up on the web pages of Swing The Fly. I continued with more days on the Metolius and a McKenzie float during green caddis time.
Spring and into the early days of summer included bike rides in Central Oregon, the Willamette Valley, and a journey into Southern Oregon and the Rogue River Valley areas for an upcoming Pacific Northwest guidebook to be published by the Rails to Trails Conservancy.
Spring and into summer also included time on the Lower Deschutes, including my first stay at the Kaufmann House in Maupin. By the way, a feature focused on trout in the lower Deschutes showed up in the pages of American Flyfishing.
The busy fall of 2024 in review is coming soon.
